Dispersion compensation in optical coherence tomography with a prism in a rapid-scanning optical delay line

چکیده

We demonstrate the theoretical and experimental results of using a single prism in the rapid-scanning optical delay line of an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for compensating the mismatches of the firstand second-order group delay dispersion (GDD) between the reference and sample arms. The analytical expressions for the firstand second-order GDD are derived based on the typically designed system configuration. Numerical results in varying various parameters are shown. An optimized set of parameters for efficient dispersion compensation in a practical fiber-based OCT system is obtained. The numerical result of the dispersion compensation is demonstrated. Also, the experimental implementation of such a dispersion compensation method is illustrated with the conditions similar to the numerical calculations. The compensation result is quite satisfactory.

Autofocus algorithm for dispersion correction in optical coherence tomography.

Practical clinical optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems require automatic tools for identifying and correcting flaws in OCT images. One type of flaw is the loss of image detail owing to the dispersion of the medium, which in most cases is unknown. We present an autofocus algorithm for estimating the delay line and material dispersion from OCT reflectance data, integrating a previously pre...

Dispersion manipulation in optical coherence tomography with Fourier-domain optical delay line

In the last decade, Fourier-domain optical delay lines (FD-ODL) based on pulse shaping technology have emerged as a practical device for high-speed scanning and dispersion compensation in imaging interferometry such as optical coherence tomography(OCT). In this study, we investigate the effect of firstand second-order dispersion on the photocurrent signal associated with a fiber-optic OCT syste...

Complete complex conjugate resolved heterodyne swept source optical coherence tomography using a dispersive optical delay line: erratum

We correct an error in our previous paper [Biomed. Opt. Express 2, 1218 (2011)] which led to an erroneous conclusion that a dispersive optical delay line (DODL) used in a swept source optical coherence tomography (SSOCT) system generated a pure phase modulation allowing for complex conjugate artifact removal in Fourier domain OCT via optical heterodyning. We now understand that an alternate phe...

Implementation of an All-Fiber Variable Optical Delay Line with a Pair of Linearly Chirped Fiber Bragg Gratings

We implemented all-fiber delay line using linearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings (CFBG), which can be applicable for reflectometry or optical coherence tomography (OCT). Compared with the previously reported delay lines, the proposed fiber-based optical delay line has in principle novel advantages such as automatic dispersion cancellations without additional treatment and a gain in optical delay...

Clinical Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Ophthalmology

Assessment of the peripapillary nerve fiber layer and macular thickness can be determined in ophthalmology using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Decreased nerve fiber layer thickness and macular ganglion cell thickness in optic nerve ischemia have been correlated with visual field loss. OCT allows deep optic nerve head evaluation which helps understand pathophysiology of diseases.  Furtherm...
